Choosing Blinds for Windows and Doors

Blinds are a stylish way of covering the windows and doors in your home. Blinds add to your décor, shield your furnishings from harmful UV light and provide you with absolute privacy. Certain window blinds give you complete control over the amount of light that is let into your rooms, which you can't do with curtains.

Considerations

Blinds for windows and doors come in a wide variety of styles and colours and are ideal for keeping your rooms warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Because there is a lot to choose from, it might be an idea to take a few things into consideration when choosing your blinds:

• What do you need your blinds for? For example, do you want to allow light in or block it out?
• How much privacy do you want? You can buy blinds that allow in light or block anyone seeing inside.
• What room are you putting the blinds in? Does the blind match your furnishings? You don't always need to go for the same style blinds throughout your house.

Style

Once you have decided on what you want your blinds to do in each room of your house, you need to decide on a style of blind that fits your specifications:

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds allow you to control the amount of sunlight that enters a room by using adjustable vertical panels. They can also be pulled to one side to allow your room to be fully illuminated with natural light or fully closed for complete privacy.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are horizontal slats that are usually made of wood or aluminium. The level of the blind can be adjusted to allow a certain amount of light into a room.

Roman Blinds

Roman blinds allow you to raise or lower the blind in folded panels to let in natural light. Roman blinds come in a wide variety of materials, including woven wood and fabric, and are an ideal modern alternative to curtains.

Roller blinds

These blinds employ a string or beaded coil system that allows you to roll the blind up or down. Roller blinds are functional and an excellent option if you want complete privacy or to protect your furnishings from fading.

Pleated Blinds

Pleated shades are similar to Venetian blinds in their functionality. These blinds have flat, horizontal panels and gently filter light to bring a warm glow to a room.

Woven wood Blinds

Usually made from renewable sources, such as bamboo and wood, these blinds block direct sunlight from entering a room, but allow some natural light in.

Wooden Blinds with Tapes

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary then our wooden blinds are available in a traditional soft grain finish or in a more contemporary painted finish. They are provided with matching cover valances and colour co-ordinated headrails, cords and ladder braids.
