Conservatory Measuring Guide
For measuring windows for specific blinds types please go to our How to Measure section.
Are there any obstructions that will hinder the operation or fitting of the blind headrails , is the fixing area clear no ridges i.e. a flat fixing surface if not do you need to make allowances or consider how you get your fixings. Do you need to make allowances for phone sockets, dado rails, lights, light switches, window sill overhangs that end by the doors etc.
Decide where you want to fix your blind we would advise directly under the fascia plate just below the roof line generally 10-12cm below where the roof meets the sides.
We do not advise fitting directly on to the fascia plate as it is not always a straight forward procedure as the aluminium under the PVC cover plate is often corrugated.
All blinds are attached with No 6x20mm self tapping screws, do not pre-drill, drive the screws in with a good power screwdriver being careful not to over tighten as you will strip the threads, stop when screw bottoms out on the bracket, if you are fixing blinds to doors give good clearance from the glass and gaskets, if you require your blind to pass behind the door handles ensure the blind is not too wide.
First decide on the blind type you wish to fit into your conservatory, how are you going to set the blinds ? One blind per window or a selection of single and double windows per blind, generally keep it practical and uniform. We would suggest with Verticals keep it to the minimum amount of tracks as possible, but no single tracks of more than 4mts if you need more than 4mts then cover in two tracks, (please email us if your track is over 3mts). Give some consideration to the controls and draw options keep it practical and uniform where possible, keep all controls and draws away from the center of any doors. Venetian Blinds can be supplied with door holdown brackets that attach to the base rails, this will help to hold the blind in place when the doors are opened and closed. With the exception of Wooden Venetian Blinds all of our blinds can be fitted with the brackets provided and give clearance to handles up to 4.5cm in depth. Roller Blinds with the reverse roll option will clear handles see (Fig 7) & (Fig 8) , if you wish to have Wooden Venetians then you will need to fit some battening equivalent to your handle depth first, that will allow the blinds to raise, lower and tilt free of handles.
Below we have provided all the bracket depths with the blind attached to enable you to measure, (Face Fix in all cases).
Best carried out with some stiff cardboard, work out your bracket and headrail width, cut two pieces of cardboard 15cm long by blind headrail width, in our example (Fig 5a) & (Fig 5) we are measuring for Vertical Blinds bracket/headrail is 96mm so our card is cut to 15cm long by a width of 96mm, place the two pieces of card into the apex slide along until they touch, mark on the inside edge of the cardboard with a pencil see (Fig 5a) & (Fig 6a) mark every apex in same way, for straight sections use the same method but allow 1cm gap as shown in (Fig 6a) & (Fig 6). When measuring for the doors remember the width needs to be from the window sill overhang not the full width as the blind needs to draw back and raise, lower, tilt ect. free of window sills, if you have no window sills in the conservatory then measure as described above.
Use the same method for corners allowing 1cm gap between the front and side blinds as shown in (Fig 6) & (Fig 6a) or vice versa, front blinds with full width will give best window coverage to front, if you need more privacy from the side then have the sides longer into the corners, and make the front shorter as you will have a small gap of glass showing either way.
Note Roman & Woven Wood Blinds need a larger space to allow for the extra thickness of the blind when in the raised positions in the corners, information is provided in the chart below*.
Now the drop measurement from headrail position to window sill measure all the way round the conservatory to the doors make a note of the shortest drop. Doors dependant on the type of blind and fitting method you use will determine your dimensions, if its Verticals measure to the floor allowing for a mat if you have one, measure in three places make a note of the shortest drop.
All other types of blinds we would recommend fixing to the doors allowing 1.5 to 2.0cm past the glass bead to the sides of the door for width, but ensure that the blind will travel behind the handles when raised and lowered allow 3-4cm top and bottom again ensuring this will not hinder with the frame when doors are opened and closed, if you would prefer one blind across both doors or door, then take the width to the window sill less 1cm check this will not catch on skirting boards if you have them, you may find the blind will catch on the door handles this way as the brackets do not provide enough clearance for door handles as generally they stand off the frame by 6-8cm most handles to the windows are 3 - 4.5cm, this could be overcome by packing out the brackets over the doors we would suggest that this would be decided at time of installation, as in some cases you may find it works satisfactorily.

Remember when you place your order on our website Made To Measure Blinds UK. You need to select (Exact) Blind Size.
This will indicate to us that you wish your blind to be made to your exact dimensions and that you have allowed for clearance of 1cm between the blinds, provide all drops as the smallest noted, all blinds with the exception of Verticals will be supplied the your exact drop given, in all cases we will deduct 1cm from all Vertical drops given if ordered as recess or exact to give window sill or floor rotation clearance.

- Please note this information is for your guidance only, it is how our trained fitters measure for conservatories, however we can not be held responsible and do not accept responsibility for errors and possible oversight on your part when you measure and supply us with your dimensions.
- Sizes provided by the customer are your own responsibility, refunds or replacement blinds free of charge will not be possible if you miss measure.
- Dependant on the size of your window frame work, you may find that in the corners of the conservatory by the time you have allowed for handles and the blind headrail there may be a small amount of glass showing when the blind is in the closed position, when measuring look down the window from your marks on the frame work to see if the position of the blinds will give you total glass coverage, in some cases it may have to be a compromise.
- If you are unsure on any of these instructions then we suggest you order and fit the main blind first then order the side blinds to fill in the gaps to the sides, if you do decide on this option we can not guarantee the blinds will have a total match in colour or that slats will line up.
It is important for us to have accurate measurements for your blinds, as they are made to your specific measurements. If you have any problems or questions please contact us
