Standard Window Measuring Guide
For measuring windows for specific blinds types please go to our How to Measure section.
Inside mount (recess)
Measure the width across in the three places – top, middle and bottom. Make a note of the smallest measurement for your order.- Measure the drop in three places – left, middle and right. Make a note of the smallest measurement for your order.
- Remember to allow for any obstructions.
- Please note that you will lose a small amount of fabric from each end of a roller blind – 1cm off the pin end and 2.5cm off the controller end, to allow for operation. Please see below Fig (1) and Fig (2).
- When you enter your measurements on your order, mark them as recess and we will make the necessary deductions for your blind to fit in the recess. Please note the deduction is 1cm.
Ordered as RECESS (INSIDE MOUNT) we deduct 10mm from the width given, will include brackets at ends, for blinds with end fixings.
With the exception of Vertical blinds we deduct 10mm from the width and drop given, will include brackets.
Outside mount (exact)
Measure the exact width and height you want for your blind and make a note of your measurements.- Allow a minimum of 4cm above your window for brackets, so add 4cm to your total drop to allow for a fixing above your window (see diagram).
- Add a minimum of 4cm to the sides of your window for additional privacy and to block more light. Be aware of any obstructions, such as doors opening onto the wall next to the blind.
- Enter exact on your order and we will manufacture the blind to your precise measurements.
- Ordered as BLIND SIZE (EXACT) blind made to your exact width and drop given, will include brackets at ends, for blinds with end fixings. With the exception of Vertical blinds that will be made to your exact width. Drop will be less 1cm and will include brackets.
Multiple blinds
Multiple blinds side by side allow 5mm clearance both ends of each blind. Order as exact we will manufacture blinds to your exact size.- Standard window objects to consider that may interfere with the blind operation are: Dado rail, phone point, handles and half tiled wall.
- Patio doors skirting would not affect a Vertical Blind but all other types of Blinds you would need to take the width at floor level i.e. the skirting width.
Roller Blind fabric widths:
- See note above for Roller Blinds and fabric widths if you have half tiled walls.
- Fig (1) Pin End the fabric is inset 1cm from the edge of roller blind to allow for brackets.
- Fig (2) Controller end fabric is inset 2.5cm from the edge of roller blind to allow for bracket and controller.
- If you are measuring for a Roller blind for a Kitchen or Bathroom that is half tiled, as long as the step is no more that 1cm each side you do not need to make allowances for the tiles, if the step is more than 1cm you will need to reduce the width to allow for the fabric to travel past the tiles. As a guide the fabric width is reduced by 2.8 cm from the width given. Just remember that if you order as Recess then we deduct 1cm from width, if ordered as Exact the Roller blind will be made to your exact dimensions. Take that into consideration when calculating the fabric width. Allow a little extra for clearance.
- Note all other blinds you will need to measure the narrowest width so measure between the tiles.
