Blackout Blinds Information

Link to blackout roller product page.

Our made to measure blackout blinds are a perfect solution for darkening a room during the long daylight hours prevalent during the UK spring and summer months.

A blackout blind is ideal for any room and perfect for a children's bedroom or nursery, helping to solve the problem of your child or baby waking up early, reducing fatigue all round.

Whilst complete darkness is difficult to achieve with any type of black out roller blinds or blackout shades, you'll find the room light level is significantly reduced down to a minimal level, with the added benefit of helping to control room temperature during hot weather.

The blackout properties of the blind are produced by a lightweight non-transparent fabric, which is available in different colours including popular shades of cream, blue, off black, white and green. We also offer our made to measure blackout blinds with attractive patterned fabrics to match your room decor. Each of our blackout roller blinds comes with a side mounted control mechanism which can be left or right mounted for extra convenience.

Roller Blind fabric widths:

Reduce cloth width:

  • Fig (1) Pin End the fabric is inset 1cm from the edge of roller blind to allow for brackets.
  • Fig (2) Controller end fabric is inset 1.8cm from the edge of roller blind to allow for bracket and controller.

If you are measuring for a roller blind for a kitchen or bathroom that is half tiled, as long as the step is no more than 1cm each side you do not need to make allowances for the tiles, if the step is more than 1cm you will need to reduce the width to allow for the fabric to travel past the tiles. As a guide the fabric width is reduced by 3.6cm from the width given.

Just remember that if you order as recess then we deduct 0.5cm from width, if ordered as exact the roller blind will be made to your exact dimensions, in all cases will include the brackets at ends. Take that into consideration when calculating the fabric width. Allow a little extra for clearance.

Increase cloth width:
If you need a certain fabric width to give glass coverage you will need to add to the width the fabric lost due to brackets, this will depend on the brackets supplied governed by the total blind width see below. But remember you must have sufficient space to fit the blind as you would have increased the width. This would be useful if you are fitting a roller blind on a backdoor keeping the fabric behind the door handle when the blind is drawn down but still giving you maximum glass coverage.

EXACT FABRIC WIDTH & FINISHED BLIND SIZE

If you need a certain fabric width you need to allow extra for the brackets / controls,
As all roller blinds are manufactured including the brackets. Within the width measurements you provide. (SEE BELOW)

Up to 2m         Barrel diameter is 32mm   = add 3.6cm for brackets and controller.

2m to 3.0m     Barrel diameter is 45mm   = add 3.6cm for brackets and controller.

This information is provided to help you allow for a certain fabric width required, if the blind is going inside a recess then please insure you have the extra space to fit the blind.

Remember in all cases we manufacture Roller blinds to your measurements provided including brackets.

Blinds within a bay or side by side:

With our manufacturing process we can provide a horizontal pattern match, but we do not “wallpaper match” side by side or centre patterns.

Fabrics
Polyester
Polyester fabrics do not stretch and have a high resistance to abrasion.
The fibre does not absorb moisture readily.

Stitchbond
Stitchbonds are non-woven, the warp and weft are simply laid on each other and bonded and secured with a running stitch.

Jacquard
Jacquards are constructed on special looms creating intricate woven fabrics allowing for the option of combining different coloured yarns.
Generally more expensive than simple woven fabrics.
