Wild thing – you make my home sing

January 26, 2016

MNature comes to the fore in this pretty bedroom styled by Debenhaaybe it’s the mild winter giving us high hopes for an early spring – but our homes have been taken over by Mother Nature.

Or possibly it’s a follow-on from the stag and hide obsession we saw over the winter, but we’ve embraced wildlife dramatically as the season begins to change.

Prints and accessories inspired by wildlife and flora will be enlivening our décor throughout the home, from cushions in the bedroom to flamingo lamps in the living room.

But thankfully it’s not a one-size-fits-all look. For lovers of the pretty and delicate, there are drifts of butterflies, embroidered on fabrics and printed on gorgeous ceramics — Matalan’s sweetly budget tea and bird cushion is the perfect example.

PR_debenhams_374713004380391So how do you make the wild things work for you? Mix and match, of course. Keep actual animal figures to just a few in each room — see the striking flamingo lamp in the Debenhams-styled room as a perfect example.

We love the way its groovy shade and deep pink colour makes a perfect highlight against the aqua of the walls, and adds an element of fun in this room — how about adding white wooden blinds to complement the painted bed and side table? Few our full range here!

cuckooland_278331770572841Dora Designs’ cute woodpecker serves two purposes. It’s a jolly and pretty addition to any room, and it’s also a doorstop whose patchwork fabrics fit in well with a further trend this spring that’s also being reflected in catwalk fashion. Delightfully quirky!

Nature goes well with natural materials, of course, so expect to see cottons and linens making a big impact in our rooms. Woods will retain their endless popularity — we adore the wooden bird bookends by Dickins and Jones for their sculptural good looks and practicality.

Charlie Bed High End Bedframe, £839, Barker and StonehouseAnother great example of this happy marriage of wood and wildlife is demonstrated by Barker and Stonehouse’s Charlie high-end bed frame. It’s made of reclaimed wood that’s been put to stylish use (a low-end frame is also available) and looks stunning when teamed with some dazzling cushions.

dotcomgiftshop_6613992136767992We’ve chosen the Papilo butterfly-decorated cushion and the Jade embroidered cushion to create a globally-curated look — a great way to bring your travels home.

We’re venturing boldly into colour this spring, with dusky pinks, nile greens and strong blues adding drama to every room in the house.

houseoffraser_63781686395590It’s a serious statement, and wildlife prints, patterns and figures can lighten the mood, add a dash of fun and make you smile, whether pretty or funky is your chosen style.

Wild things — you’re already making our hearts sing. And with a bit of luck, the spring is right around the corner.
