Barbara said: “Originally, we had roller blinds and a short net on the window. It’s south-facing, and in the summer we had problems with the sun reflecting in, which gives me migraines.
“Pulling down the roller blind, though, made the room really dark, which is a shame on a nice sunny day.”
Visiting the Made to Measure Blinds website for ideas, Barbara and Graham found plenty of inspiration.
“I couldn’t believe how much choice there was, particularly in colours,” said Barbara. After deliberating, they settled on Venetian blinds because they can be tilted to allow in as much sunshine as you like.
“We’re absolutely thrilled with them,” said Barbara. “When it’s sunny, you just tilt the slats and you reduce the glare without cutting out the light. And even on gloomy days, just by tilting them the other way it seems to make the room brighter.
“We could have picked a number of the colours, but in the end we chose Antique Silver because we thought the metallic look is good in a kitchen. It was a big help being able to order samples, so we could look at them in place and see what worked best, and we’re very pleased with our choice.”
The Turners were unconcerned about measuring up and fitting the blinds after taking a good look at the website.
“The information on the site was really useful, and so were the videos,” said Barbara. “We had no trouble whatsoever fitting the blinds, and we think they look lovely.”
We thought so too – and the Turners won a £30 voucher in our Before and After competition.
“We’d certainly use Made to Measure Blinds in future if we decided on more blinds,” said Barbara. “We’re delighted with our kitchen windows now.”
