Customer Review: New Venetians perfect for letting in the light

April 14, 2014

Graham TurnerWhen Barbara and Graham Turner decided to revamp the window coverings in their kitchen, they had certain issues that they wanted to tackle.

Barbara said: “Originally, we had roller blinds and a short net on the window. It’s south-facing, and in the summer we had problems with the sun reflecting in, which gives me migraines.

“Pulling down the roller blind, though, made the room really dark, which is a shame on a nice sunny day.”

Visiting the Made to Measure Blinds website for ideas, Barbara and Graham found plenty of inspiration.

“I couldn’t believe how much choice there was, particularly in colours,” said Barbara. After deliberating, they settled on Venetian blinds because they can be tilted to allow in as much sunshine as you like.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with them,” said Barbara. “When it’s sunny, you just tilt the slats and you reduce the glare without cutting out the light. And even on gloomy days, just by tilting them the other way it seems to make the room brighter.

“We could have picked a number of the colours, but in the end we chose Antique Silver because we thought the metallic look is good in a kitchen. It was a big help being able to order samples, so we could look at them in place and see what worked best, and we’re very pleased with our choice.”

The Turners were unconcerned about measuring up and fitting the blinds after taking a good look at the website.

“The information on the site was really useful, and so were the videos,” said Barbara. “We had no trouble whatsoever fitting the blinds, and we think they look lovely.”

We thought so too – and the Turners won a £30 voucher in our Before and After competition.

“We’d certainly use Made to Measure Blinds in future if we decided on more blinds,” said Barbara. “We’re delighted with our kitchen windows now.”

Get Inspired With Our Before and After: Our Design Competition

June 24, 2013

Ready? Set and design! If you are looking to refresh your home, did you know that one of the fastest and most affordable ways for you to update and change the look is with new window blinds? Often at times it is the smallest changes that make a big difference to an interior space. But sometimes we all need a little inspiration to get us thinking about what we might do in our own home or office.

And that got us thinking tooafter-1

The best source of inspiration is sharing and viewing the design ideas of others. It’s a great way to browse for a theme or idea you might like if you aren’t sure where to start. The more ideas and installations of window blinds you see the more likely you are to find an inspiration that really suits your taste and décor. Build on that inspiration and add your own personal touches and you’ll have created an updated room in your home at a fraction of the cost of professional installation.

When it comes to looks we have so many options to choose from and our customers aren’t shy about sharing how pleased they are with their purchase from Made to Measure Blinds UK. And since we know that there are some very creative do-it-yourself (DIY) designers out there we thought we’d help by encouraging you to share your vision.

Did we mention you could win a £30.00 voucher to spend on High Street in our monthly draw?

The Rulesbefore-1

  1. Email us two pictures at the same time, one of your window before you install your new blinds from Made to Measure Blinds UK. Then provide a second picture of your window after you have installed your new window covering.
  2. Please include a very short description of the room you have redesigned and how you use it. Is it for entertaining? Is it a dining area or home office? Please include your order number to qualify for our monthly draw.

Please note that all submissions may be shared on the Made to Measure Blinds UK website and through our social media channels. We’ll be notifying winners on the first day of the month via email and sending the voucher to the happy winners each month.

Blind Intervention: The Before and After

October 19, 2012

In August we ran a promotional contest to find “Britain’s Ugliest Blind” with our local constituents.  It was our hope that we could highlight how many people hold on to unsightly or broken window coverings, and have some fun with our photograph contest.  We certainly did get some proof that there are some blinds in desperate need of replacement in Britain, and we enjoyed the participation of all our entries as well as the friends and family members that voted on the submissions.

The contest was the first promotion we ran through Facebook using the Wildfire application, and we think it was a lot of fun!  Feedback was certainly positive and the good natured approach was a great opportunity to suggest how easy and economical it is to replace unflattering blinds with new fashionable styles for the home, made to measure with our bespoke service.

When we announced the three winners we asked them to consider providing feedback on their purchase experience with Made to Measure Blinds UK.   Having provided gift vouchers in for £200  £100 and £50 respectively, we were eager to publish before and after pictures for our three winners to share in their excitement as they installed their brand new blinds.  We also hoped to demonstrate through our three winners how easy it is to order your blinds online, made to measure for your space and save through self-installation.

Our second prize winner Joanne Bean was incredibly excited to be our second prize winner and received a voucher for £100 of our window blinds.   She was a cheerful and wonderful woman who took the time to write us back in order to express her pleasure with her order.

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for the blinds which I won in your recent “Britain’s Ugliest Blind” contest! We installed the blinds today and they are fab! They’ve totally transformed my office space, were very easy to fit, and look fantastic! I’m so pleased with them that we are going to be ordering more this week to complete the room.”

A few weeks later Joanne wrote back to us on Facebook that she was so pleased with her order and the look of her first room, that she had placed a second order to decorate a new room.    She then sent pictures of the second room she furbished with Made to Measure blinds and Joanne was equally pleased with her second order, a beautiful choice in venetian blinds.

On behalf of us all at Made to Measure Binds UK we would like to thank you Joanne for  your friendly disposition and your good spirited participation.  Thank you for providing us with the pictures and for all your kind words about our products and service.  We are not the largest blinds manufacturer out there but we like to think we just might be the most conscientious when it comes to caring about our customer satisfaction.   It matters to us, and so do you Joanne!  Enjoy your new blinds and thank you for choosing Made to Measure Blinds UK for your bespoke window covering service.

The Winners of Britains Ugliest Blinds

September 6, 2012

Congratulations to our three winners of our photo contest. We ventured to find three homes in most need of some ‘blind intervention’ and found them. While having a little fun, we wanted to demonstrate how easily it is to update your home affordably with new window coverings and we look forward to follow up pictures from our three winning contestants with their new blinds.

We would like to share the top winning submissions with you.

1st Prize £200 – Josiah Allen-Litchmore (London) “DIY Blinds Gone Wrong”

Tell us why you think your window deserves to be known as “Britain’s Ugliest Blind”.

“These are some blinds I attempted to install myself, but they soon started to fall apart and are now primarily supported by brown tape along the edges. This scene occurs at least once a day where almost the entire blind peels off the roller at the top.”

2nd Prize £100 –Joanne Bean “Roller Blinds – My Eyes!”

Tell us why you think your window deserves to be known as “Britain’s Ugliest Blind”.

“This is the view that I see every day from my desk! How on earth I am supposed to put in a productive day at work having to look at this monstrosity I’ll never know! Please help me keep my job by giving me something more inspiring to look at!”

3rd Prize £50 – Natasha Cross “Smokey Glass”

Tell us why you think your window deserves to be known as “Britain’s Ugliest Blind”.

“We currently can’t afford a blind for our bathroom as we have just moved into our new home. We also can’t afford an oven right now so have had no choice but to use our BBQ come rain or shine… We desperately need a bathroom blind for obvious reasons (photo 1) but yesterday my other half took the ‘Smoked Glass effect’ to a new level (photo 2). As it was raining he pushed the BBQ right up against the wall! Not only do I need a blind so I can stop giving my neighbours an eyeful I also need a new windowsill!”

Thank you to everyone who visited our Facebook page and posts, and those who voted for the submissions. We had a wonderful time judging the submissions and meeting with all the participants. We hope that you enjoyed the competition and thank you for choosing Made to Measure Blinds for convenient shop-at-home bespoke blind products. Please bookmark our blog for more information on our products, care and maintenance as well as décor and design ideas for creative applications of quality window blinds.
