Considerations

  • Always measure the window in three different places for width/drop.
  • Ensure there are no obstacles around your window or within the recess that may prevent your blind from functioning correctly. Obstacles include telephone sockets, decorative rails, decorative window frames and skirting.
  • When deciding where to place the blind within or outside the recess take your window handles into consideration as they may affect the how the blind works.
  • When installing blinds adjacent to one another provide at least a 1cm gap between each blind to make sure that each blind can work separately.
  • Please note if ordering wooden venetian blinds and your order is for blinds to be made exact blind size. Then the blind headrail will be provided with wooden returns to go with the top wood cover valance. This is an optional extra that hides the blind headrail, and the ends. It is your choice if you use them or not. Click here to view images You would only use the returns if the blinds were to sit outside the recess free of window returns, and obstructions. The blind will not change in size, only the wood valance. If you decide not to use the returns then simply cut the valance square to the width of your head rail with a small tenon saw.
  • Ordered as RECESS (INSIDE MOUNT) we deduct 10mm from the width given, this will include brackets at ends, for blinds with end fixings. With the exception of roller blinds where the deduction is 0.5cm.
  • Ordered as BLIND SIZE (EXACT) blinds are made to your exact width and drop given, and will include brackets at ends, for blinds with end fixings.
  • For vertical blinds we deduct 10mm from the width and drop of your blind if you order as RECESS (INSIDE MOUNT).If you order as BLIND SIZE (EXACT) then the width will be your exact size provided but we will still deduct 10mm from the drop of the louvres +/- 4mm this ensures that they hang free from the window sill or floor.

Equipment

  • A good steel metric tape measure. If you need to convert feet and inches to metric, use our size converter when you select a blind. This can be found in the shopping cart and below.
  • Some paper and a sharp pencil.

Decide if you are fitting the blind to the inside or the outside of the window recess and follow the instructions below:

Child safety WARNING

NOTE: Child safety loose cords and looped cords.
Installation height not known.
“Please advise us immediately after placing your order quoting your order number via email, if your blind headrail is to be installed in excess of 2.5 metres from the floor. This is essential so that control lengths can be adjusted, otherwise blinds will be supplied with controls compliant with EN 13120 so will be supplied up to a maximum of 1 metre long.”
*If drop is greater than 2.5m then cord and chain length must be less than or equal to drop of blind minus 1.5m.
